I tried playing Forza 7 again yesterday.

This game is just so bad compared to the previous ones. I like racing older regular person cars and modding them, not extremely, and doing like what are A, B, and C category races on these games. It’s just a completely unfun game if you want to do that.

Even the open races in the campaign mode you have no choices. Like if I pick the Buick GN it makes me races in the “class” against only other 80s cars. It’s not an open class. It also limits you to 450 points which is what that car is pretty much rated stock. In Forza 5 I liked using the Starion in higher tier races with like 350hp as well, and you obviously cannot in this.

The older game’s campaigns or Gran Turismo 5s campaign was great. I really started to dislike GT because you couldn’t even put wider tires on a car and everything was way more detacted in terms of modding and only the premium cars sounded or looked decent which there were very few of at the time. Been thinking of picking up a PS4 and getting the Gran Turismo game on that but I don’t know much about it.

The most ridiculous thing about Forza 7 is I heard they added the Audi S3 to the game. I wanted to drive a car that I own, but you can’t get the car, it was for an “event”. Like they want you to farm events for cars and shit on this like it’s a MMORPG. It’s ridiculous.

I was always a PC gamer and I hated console game nonsense like this. “You can’t use this until you unlock it” nonsense. The way these games had progression before where you used money gained to buy cars was MUCH better. Locking things behind limited events and all of that makes me for sure not wanting to buy the new Horizon or Forza 8 if that comes out. The campaign mode is already not fun so I can’t imagine how many unfun elements they will add to their future games.

I haven’t even mentioned the AI in this game. It’s like bumper cars. Online is at least as bad.

Tell me about it - I was happy to see the S3 was in the game so I could hoon my real-world car, but nope. The only way you can drive it is to rent it.

I have a few spare S3s. Let me know if you want one and I can paint it any color you’d like.

Ya it was weird that I couldn’t even use cash to buy the car. I thought that would be worth it since I actually own one, I normally do not do microtransactions, but that wasn’t even an option.

I picked back up Forza 6 this weekend to play around while watching Le Mans and was reminded of just how much I hate the physics in the Forza series. I didn’t mind them when I first picked up Forza 6, after having been a long-time Forza hater, but having played Gran Turismo 6/GT Sport since last playing 6, all of the hate came rushing back to me.

I pretty much just stick to free play, i’m personally not a huge fan of the homologation system. You can set up your races more or less however you want in there.

If you are going to play through the career, note that a lot of the cars you get are pre-homologated. Personally i prefer to return those cars to stock and then either homologate them myself or just build them to a letter class and use them online. I’m not a fan of the auto-upgrade system, which is what the game is using to homologate cars.

I believe the AI is programmed to hit you back if you hit them. I always try and be super careful around the first few corners to avoid any contact. The AI tends to keep out of my way if i’m being careful. But i think online is probably your best bet since you like class racing.

That really bugs me too. In older Forza games I used to compensate for the wide jumps in difficulty settings by using underpowered cars for the class. Now you can’t really do that and the difficulty settings still have those ridiculous jumps, were the next to hardest difficulty is a little too easy, and the hardest, it’s impossible to finish in the top three unless you make the races long as hell, which I don’t have time for.

Plus menus just feel incredibly laggy to me, compared to older ones like 4.

I HATE he category systems, and that the cars you “win” are already modified for their class. I want to buy the cars I want and modify them the way I want to. I don’t want to be just given cars either.

One of my favorite things to do was take underdog cars and beat real Sports cars. I’d rather race a Beetle against Corvettes. I hateded it when I’d mod a car to A or S Class only to be told that I couldn’t race that car because it wasn’t a the right category. I much preferred it when eh only limitation was the letter class and not category’s

I got one from the league event, but the others I’ve snatched up from the auction house. Would you like one too?

I’ve been playing Gran Turismo Sport nearly every day since it came out in October. I really like it, but be warned before you decide to embark on the GT Sport journey:

Relatively short car list

Relatively short track list

...with that being said, the car list and track list has been growing every month since release with regular free monthly content updates.

Car modifications aren’t really a thing. You can change wheels, tune suspension/differential/alignment/transmission settings, and increase or decrease power & weight to an extent, but there aren’t actual parts you can buy and install on your cars.

Livery editor is great, with a few quirks

The online Sport racing is generally very good. Best online racing I’ve ever experienced anyway.

The game looks fantastic .

Let me know if you have any questions!

Bought it for 20 bucks off a friend and it’s okay so far. Graphics are somewhat good looking to me and the car selection is great.

But like you said, those locked cars are fucking bullshit and the AI is super dumb. I also hate that T10 is still using old misproportioned models for some cars like the Golf Mk4 R32.

I didn’t know about the model issue.

What’s annoying with these unlocks is if it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t be hating on the game because usually I just played it to do the equivalent of track days on it. Single car, my car, and trying to do like a time attack. But you must do the campaign in this, I always did it but before it was a LOT more fun.

“One of my favorite things to do was take underdog cars and beat real Sports cars.”

This is ALWAYS how I played the game. The only car i’ve ever used that wasnt’ like this was the Pantera in Forza 5 but even then it was very modded.

My favorite car in 5 was the Starion though.

Is the game at all worthwhile if I’m not gonna play online? I loved GT3 and 4 and played 5 a bit (never had a PS3 myself) but my PS4 is limited to offline play (no internet at my house, beside my phone, because rural living) so I need a decent campaign.

Jesus. Some of them just look like photos. At a slightly lower resolution they’d be indistinguishable.

I mostly play the single-player modes. However, nearly everything except one-off Custom Events requires an internet connection. The game is very much online focused, and pretty much all of your save data is actually saved to and loaded from Polyphony Digital’s servers. If you have -no- internet connection on your PS4, I can’t recommend the game unfortunately. :(

It’s cheating a bit - most of those shots in the first three links were using the game’s Scapes feature, which blends real-world photography (the ‘scapes’, or backgrounds) with Gran Turismo’s car models. You can select cars, position them, pan & zoom the camera, and adjust all of the settings as you would on a real DSLR camera. Then you can adjust the cars’ motion and change camera panning settings. It’s a really neat feature if you’re a shutterbug like I am. For those not into photography it probably won’t be much of a diversion.

Kinja'd!!!

Of course you can also take photos from race replays and freely move the camera about as you please.

Yeah, the Scapes feature is one of the main reasons I wanna get the game. I enjoy in-game photography almost much as I enjoy real life photography. I may need to pick it up, especially after FM7 was such a disappointment.

Bummer but thanks for the honest feedback. I do hope they do a proper GT7 based on GT Sport physics/graphics but I fear I’ll have to wait entirely too long for it.

It’s unfortunate that everything is so online focused/based these days. I just want to be able to pick up my controller and do a quick race in my career mode and move on because that’s about all o have time for these days with my work life.

I’ll get internet at the house eventually but for now I just want a decent offline racing game that is more diverse than Dirt 4 which I already have and enjoy. I might have to check out Driveclub, Asseto Corsa or Project Cars 2, though my brother tells me the latter is exceedingly difficult with a controller. Do you have any recommendations on those?

I have to agree with you on all those points. I just so happen to have really good, fast, cheap internet where I live.

If you’re playing with a controller, I’d recommend Driveclub. I understand Project Cars 2's controller implementation is better than its predecessor’s, but the first one was really really bad with a pad. I’ve had a lot of fun with Driveclub with a controller, though. They’ve added a lot of content to Driveclub, too if you can find a way to download the latest patch.

Yhe last Forza I bought was Horizon (1) and Forza 4. Forza 5 (came with my Day 1 Xbox One) looks pretty but otherwise sucks and I couldn’t be bothered to buy Australia Horizon or Forza 6.

If Forza ever brings back the smart fortwo, I’m in. Otherwise, Forza 4 will remain to be the only reason I still own a Xbox 360.
